Natasha Advani Thangkhiew awarded the 2024 CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship

Toronto, ON—April 8, 2024 —Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT+ Toronto)
is pleased to announce that Natasha Advani Thangkhiew (she/her) is the recipient of 2024’s CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship. Now in its 18th year, the mentorship seeks an emerging Canadian producer who is passionate about production and development with a focus on scripted drama and comedy content.

During her week-long mentorship which begins today, Natasha will shadow CBC staff from varied backgrounds and departments such as programming, marketing, acquisitions, strategy, research, and scheduling. Through comprehensive one-on-one sessions, she will learn how the public broadcaster operates behind the scenes, what motivates decisions behind programming, and understand how various departments interconnect. Beyond the immersive program, Natasha will also receive on-stage recognition at WIFT+ Toronto’s Crystal Awards Luncheon Gala later in the year.

Natasha Advani Thangkhiew is a Mumbai-born, Toronto-based multidisciplinary producer and creative. Most recently known for the tour of her theatre series What Can Indian Look Like?, Natasha earned a promotion to junior producer from producer’s assistant at RVK Productions within six months in 2023. In 2024, Natasha intends to integrate eco-conscious practices into her projects, seek professional development opportunities, and continue contributing to the collective growth of equity-deserving communities in the entertainment industry.

Natasha combines her background as a mental health support mentor and her experience creating original narratives to collaborate with creatives in telling personal stories. She believes that the process of creating art is an art and that the people involved are equally as important as the project.

“The candidates for this year’s mentorship were incredibly strong, making the interview process quite difficult. This speaks to Natasha’s ability to set herself apart from her peers. Only in her emerging years, she is generating a record of turning ideas into watchable content. I’m excited for what she will do next and there’s no doubt that our knowledgeable partners at CBC can assist her in expanding her toolkit.”
– Laurie Januska, Director of Programming, WIFT+ Toronto

“Our ongoing collaboration with WIFT+ Toronto on the CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship continues to offer a meaningful opportunity to support women across the industry as they grow and develop their careers. Congratulations to Natasha, we look forward to working with you during your time with us.” – Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President, CBC

Natasha is the latest recipient of this longstanding mentorship opportunity from WIFT+ Toronto and CBC. The CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship has helped mentees to build careers in the film and television industry such as last year’s recipients, Paula Sanderson and Zeynep Güler-Tuck.
