WIFT+ Toronto Announces Slate for Annual Showcase


Toronto, ON—April 2, 2024—Women+ in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT+ Toronto)
announces the slate for their 15th Annual WIFT+ Toronto Showcase. The event, taking place on Wednesday, May 8 at TIFF Lightbox is one of the organization’s tent pole events which seeks to highlight the talent of women and non-binary filmmakers in their membership base.

The nine shorts selected to be part of the 2024 WIFT+ Toronto Showcase are:

  • Bad Accountant – Rabiya Mansoor (Producer, Writer)
  • Unibrow – Nedda Sarshar (Director, Writer)
  • Redlights – Jane MacRae (Editor)
  • Meteor – Atefeh Khademolreza (Director, Producer, Writer)
  • Llamas at the Laundromat – Martha Grant (Animator, Director, Producer, Writer)
  • Rock the Cradle – Asis Sethi (Editor, Director, Writer)
  • Less Than Kosher: The Synagogue Viv Hasn’t Been to in 15 Years – Shaina Silver-Baird (Producer, Writer)
  • Loud & Here – Josiane Blanc (Director, Writer)
  • The Pleasure is all Mine – Vanessa Camassola Sandre (Director, Producer, Writer)

Each year, WIFT+ Toronto members are invited to submit their latest short projects across all genres. The final lineup is then chosen by a volunteer jury comprised of members who are their industry peers. During this time, the jury also decides on the winners for Best Writer, Best Director, and Best of Showcase. These awards, along with Audience Choice are announced on the evening of the event. Winners of these four accolades receive over $13,000 of cash and in-kind prizes from the Foundation of WIFT+ Toronto and the event sponsors.

Since its inception in 2010, the Showcase has screened over 100 projects to date. Having featured works from numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed filmmakers such as, Jordan Canning (The Lake), Danishka Esterhazy (Astrid & Lilly Save the World), Jasmin Mozaffari (Firecrackers), and Lisa Rideout (Sex with Sue), among others.

“This year’s Showcase feels extra special as we’re also celebrating our 40th anniversary,” said Karen Bruce, Executive Director, WIFT+ Toronto. “I believe that the diversity and creativity in the 2024 slate very much represents the spirit of our four-decade history of educating, engaging, and empowering the women, non-binary, and other gender diverse people in this industry of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”

Showcase tickets for members go on sale today, April 2, and open for the public the following week, April 9.
