Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT+ Toronto) is thrilled to announce that Amala Joseph was the recipient of the 2023 Meridian Artists Agency Mentorship, she just completed her mentorship which ran from October 16 – November 3.
During their three weeks in the Meridian’s Toronto office, the recipient learned about artist representation and career development through the lens of talent agencies. As a part of this mentorship, Amala will also receive a $1000 honorarium as well as on-stage recognition at the WIFT+ Toronto Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on November 22. Throughout the mentorship, Amala was immersed in every department of the agency and was privy to how a select roster of talented writers, directors, key creatives, and book authors are represented.
Amala Joseph is a writer with a broad range of experience in the television industry. As a Story Editor, Production Assistant, Script Supervisor, Assistant Director, or in post production, Amala has worked in all aspects of storytelling. She has also written short stories and poems that have made appearances on blogs and SM. Since graduating from Humber College’s Television Writing and Producing Program, she’s focused on writing scripts with a keen interest towards development. She is always interested in meeting people who love the filmmaking business to further learn and cultivate the next big idea.
“Amala impressed us with her preparation and clear focus for what she wanted to achieve with the Meridian Artists Agency Mentorship. Amala’s interest in learning more about creative development and the business of screen-based industries made her an ideal candidate for mentorship from all of our agency departments. She’s been a wonderful addition to our team during the placement this month.”
– Kerry Ball, Head of Development & Agent, Meridian Artists
“This mentorship and partnership is particularly special because it expands on the traditional scope of the industry, and what we often believe it to entail. Showcasing the intersection of business, creatives, and management—the Meridian Artists Agency Mentorship perfectly aligns with Amala’s goals of being in the development sphere: the space where ideas are generated, and pitches are prepped with unfettered behind the scenes access. We can’t wait to see what knowledge Amala gains from her experience and how she harnesses it in the next step of her career.”
