WIFT Crystal Awards Return, Just In Time For International Women’s Day

The 2021 WIFT Toronto Crystal Awards Gala will be held on March 8, 2022.

(Tuesday, November 2, 2021 – Toronto, Ontario) WIFT Toronto is thrilled to announce the details of the 34th Annual WIFT Toronto Crystal Awards Gala in association with Company 3 and eOne. The annual celebration will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

The Crystal Awards, established in 1988, is WIFT Toronto’s annual tribute to individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada’s screen-based media industry. Since its inception, over 150 industry trailblazers have been recognized for excellence in creativity, innovation, and leadership; and their commitment to mentoring the next generation of creators and industry leaders.

This year’s honourees are:

  • Special Jury Award of Distinction: Dr. Shirley Cheechoo C.M., Founder and Artistic Director, Weengushk Film Institute
  • Creative Excellence Award sponsored by eOne: Jennifer Holness, Writer, Director, Producer & President, Hungry Eyes Media Inc.
  • Mentorship Award sponsored by Company 3: Anita Lee, Executive Producer, Ontario Centre, National Film Board of Canada
  • Digital Trailblazer Award: Ana Serrano, President and Vice-Chancellor, OCAD University
  • Outstanding Achievement in Business Award sponsored by eOne: Jane Tattersall, SVP Formosa Group Toronto

“Appropriately timed with International Women’s Day, the 34th annual WIFT Toronto Crystal Awards will commemorate five fabulous women, whose leadership and dedication to an inclusive and equitable media industry continues to pave the way for generations to come,” says Karen Bruce, Executive Director, WIFT Toronto.

The 34th Annual Crystal Award Honourees were nominated by WIFT Toronto members and selected by a jury of past winners: Mary Bredin, Creative Development Producer, Green Tiger Club Ltd.; Alison Duke, Producer/Director/Co-Founder, Oya Media Group; and Beth Janson, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
