Foundation for Women in Film & Television - Toronto

Charitable Registration # 885240812RR0001

Established in 1989, the Foundation raises funds to support Women in Film & Television – Toronto’s professional development programs and bursaries providing access to industry-specific business knowledge, skills and leaders.

Investing in tomorrow’s Industry Leaders

The Foundation, together with WIFT-T, support the development and advancement of women leaders because we believe an innovative and globally successful screen-based industry needs a diverse, committed, connected, and well trained workforce.

In 2012, the Foundation awarded a total of eight bursaries providing access to three WIFT-T professional development programs—Convergent Media Program, Development Incubator and the Media Leadership Program.

Five of the eight bursaries were awarded in relation to the Convergent Media Program to women who are either underrepresented in the screen-based sector, have limited financial means, or limited access to training in Canada’s screen-based media industry. The bursaries provided free access to the four-day program designed for independent producers who are developing interactive digital media or transmedia projects. The Convergent Media Program is essential for those who want to master the integration of traditional media production with digital media and is tailored for moving projects from development to production. The Foundation wishes to thank Corus Entertainment for making these five bursaries possible.

Reflecting on the impact of receiving a bursary to the 2012 Convergent Media Program, Karen Chapman, writes:

“…As a recipient of the Corus Media Bursary, this has been a truly invaluable experience. It encourages female media creators to explore this new frontier, creating meaningful work with a better understanding of the changing media markets and industries. Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for providing a forum at the cusp of this new transition into the future of storytelling and filmmaking. “
