The 14th Annual WIFT Toronto Showcase

Celebrating Eight Dynamic Projects from WIFT Toronto Members 

 

Now in its 14th year, this year’s Showcase promises to take you on a journey full of emotions. With works in fiction, non-fiction, animation, drama and comedy—there are over $13,000 in cash and in-kind prizes available honouring Best Directing, Best Writing, Best of Showcase, and the Audience Choice which you vote on.

Join us Tuesday, May 9th at TIFF Bell Lightbox to celebrate these incredible projects and join us for a reception afterwards to toast the filmmakers. Admission price includes the screening, entry to the reception with nibbles and one complimentary drink.

PRIZES

In the last five years, WIFT Toronto has awarded more than $35,000 in cash prizes at our annual Showcase, through support from the Foundation for WIFT Toronto.

The following prizes were awarded at the WIFT Toronto Showcase:

Best Writing (as chosen by the Jury)
Alexx Bryant (Reel Black: Our Film Stories)
For this award, they received a cash prize of $2,000 from the Foundation for WIFT Toronto; Final Draft writing software; a consultation with story editor and script analyst Jamie Gaetz; and the opportunity to sit in two CBC writing rooms.

Best Directing (as chosen by the Jury)
Cailleah Scott-Grimes (Overgrown)
For this award, they received a cash prize of $2,000 from the Foundation for WIFT Toronto; a virtual meeting with DGC-Ontario Chair, Annie Bradley; and two Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto memberships.

Best of Showcase (as chosen by the Jury)
Shehrezade Mian (There Are No Children Here)
For this award, they received $2,000 from the Foundation for WIFT Toronto; a $2,500 certificate for post-production work at Company 3 Toronto; and a meeting with Andrew Frank, Vice President, Sales and Acquisitions, Mongrel Media.

Audience Choice (as chosen by everyone in attendance)
Alexx Bryant (Reel Black: Our Film Stories) AND Shehrezade Mian (There Are No Children Here)
For this award, they received $2,000 from the Foundation for WIFT Toronto and a $2,500 certificate for equipment rental from Grande Camera.

General Public Ticket  $30 +HST | Available April 11

Limited discounted advance tickets are available to current WIFT Toronto members for one week before going on sale to the public. 

No tickets will be available for sale at the door
