Special Events & Programming Coordinator Needed

WIFT-T is now accepting applications for Special Events & Programming Coordinator, a 12 month contract position created to assist the organization in delivering special events and programming in 2011. The successful candidate will work four days per week from the WIFT-T office and from home. Occasional travel and early mornings, evenings and weekends are required. WIFT-T Short Film Showcase

Please note the date for the WIFT-T Short Film Showcase has changed. The Showcase will now take place Tuesday March 15, 2011 at Deluxe Postproduction (424 Adelaide Street E). The evening screening will be followed by a reception and presentation of the Audience Choice Award!

The WIFT-T Short Film Showcase is an annual event designed to celebrate and promote the exceptional work of WIFT-T members. Submissions for the 2011 Showcase are now closed. This year's line-up will be announced in the coming weeks and tickets will go on sale at that time.


WIFT-T Programs

Production Management

There are a limited number of spots remaining for the fourth module of the WIFT-T Business Management for Media Professionals Program.

Production Management enables participants to manage the creation and launch of screen-based media projects. Instructed by Donna O’Brien-Sokic, Professor, Humber Film & Television Production Program, this module examines critical methods for content creation and offers strategies that maximize resources and time frames. Management methods, time lines and project life cycles are examined with a focus on supporting business growth. The business of managing budgets, cash flow and project team resources are also explored.

Industry Research Study

In spring 2011, WIFT-T will begin research to update its groundbreaking 2004 study on employment trends in Canadian screen-based media. The new research will focus on the impact of recent trends and the participation of women and people from diverse backgrounds in all areas of the industry. The study is presented in partnership with the Foundation for Women in Film & Television – Toronto, Ontario Media Development Corporation and Quebecor Fund, with support from the Canadian Media Production Association. Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT)

Members receive $200 off the general $350 admission fee for Previsualization and Virtual Production: Bringing It All Together, a two-day conference on the current state, practice and future of previsualization and virtual production.

Featuring panels, presentations and technology demos with experts from around the world, the conference will examine the strengths and challenges of collaborative processes and tools, as well as strategies for integrating those tools into the workflow of film, television, gaming and commercial production cycles.

Toronto Screenwriters Summit

Members receive a $100 discount on registration for the Screenwriters Summit in Toronto, an intensive weekend featuring screenwriting masters Syd Field, Linda Seger, Michael Hauge and John Truby. The WIFT-T discount expires February 28, 2011.

This two-day summit will provide screenwriters, filmmakers, TV writers, producers, directors and creative executives with unmatched insight into screenwriting and story. Everyday Heroes Film Festival
Call For Submissions

Important acts of eco-heroism, both large and small, are happening across Canada everyday—and Everyday Heroes wants to share those stories. Make a silent, one minute mini-doc about your local eco-hero for the 2nd annual Everyday Heroes Film Festival (April 15 - 24, 2011).

Finalists’ films will be screened for ten days in Ivanhoe Cambridge Shopping Centres across Canada and on the Onestop TTC Network of 300 subway platform screens in Toronto. Official selections will also be featured on the Onestop website.

9th Annual Female Eye Film Festival
Volunteers Needed

The Female Eye seeks program hosts—women to introduce film programs and moderate Q&A sessions with directors following screenings. The 9th annual Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) takes place March 16 – 20, 2011 at the Rainbow Cinema's Market Square. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of four two-hour programs and receive an all-access VIP Pass for the festival.

FeFF is looking for candidates with an excellent ability to communicate in English (French or a second language is an asset), familiarity with independent film and presentations in a theatrical environment, appreciation for independent cinema and the indie film community, good interpersonal and teamwork skills, familiarity with technical issues and the ability to problem-solve under pressure.
