Shibley Righton Presents: Career Management in a Changing Industry

The Breakfast Stories Series, in partnership with Shibley Righton LLP, offers an inside look at the real world of working in film and television — straight from those at the top of their game. Through in-depth interviews and audience interaction, participants will learn what it really takes to work in a range of film and television careers.

Following the breakfast, the graduating class of the 2008 Emerging Level Certificate Program will be honoured.

Feature Film Writing Program
Presented in partnership with NBC Universal and Telefilm Canada

The Feature Film Writing Program is a two module program. The first module will provide an introduction to the major elements of feature film screenwriting, including the development stages of a screenplay. The second module will provide an in-depth analysis of the major elements of feature film screenwriting. The workshop includes a complete critique of a single film. The two modules can be taken individually.

Women Writers Workshop
Presented in partnership with NBC Universal and Telefilm Canada

The Women Writers Workshop is developed for emerging to intermediate women screenwriters who have a treatment or first draft. It will work toward the development of the next draft of a feature script. This workshop is designed to complement the material from Part One of the Feature Film Writing Program.

2008 Quebecor Mentorship Award Winner: Marva Ollivierre
Presented in partnership with The Quebecor Fund


WIFT-T is pleased to announce Marva Ollivierre as this year's recipient of the 2008 Quebecor Mentorship Award. The Quebecor Mentorship Award is a national initiative designed to provide one Canadian female or male television producer of a visible minority or Aboriginal group the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2008 Banff World Television Festival through an intensive one-month Market Mentorship and Festival Bursary.

Marva will receive her award at the 2008 Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

Astral Media Mentorship Award Winner: Michelle Latimer

WIFT-T is pleased to announce Michelle Latimer as this year's recipient of the 2008 Astral Media Mentorship Award. The Astral Media Mentorship Award gives one under-represented Canadian producer the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2008 Banff World Television Festival. The winner will have an intensive pre-festival mentorship with a senior Astral Media executive and the opportunity to pitch and network at Banff. Throughout the festival, the winner is given one-on-one coaching to help her bring her concept from script to screen.

Board of Directors Program at Rotman School of Management
 
The Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, and The Institute of Corporate Directors has developed the Small and Medium-Sized Board Effectiveness Program (SME) for business executives and for directors who participate on small-medium sized boards.
 
This specialized three-day course is taught by leading faculty from Canada’s top business schools and the country’s foremost board directors. Participants will learn the fundamentals of good governance, as well as:

Burgeon and Fade Wins Remi Award
CFC short, Burgeon and Fade - created through the CFC's Short Dramatic Film Program has won the Remi Award for The Special Jury Award at the 41st Annual Worldfest Houston International Film Festival 2008. Burgeon and Fade, produced through the 2007 CFC Short Dramatic Film Program is a delicate drama of aging and love. (Director: Audrey Cummings ('06, WIFT-T’s Kodak Mentorship Award Winner), Writer: Bonnie Fairweather ('06), Producer: Anneli Ekborn ('05), Producer/Editor: Michael Mason (‘06).

CFC’s Elevated Will Air in Spain
CFC short dramatic film, Elevated will air on Norto Television this year. Elevated, produced in 1996, portrays a routine elevator ride becomes a living hell for its three trapped passengers.
