In this four-session introductory series, emerging writers learn the unique nature of telling stories for the screen. Each session examines the various stages of screenwriting and the fundamentals of the craft using examples and hands-on exercises.

Participants are encouraged to develop an original concept for a feature film and take that concept to the outline or treatment stage. A one-month intermission between Part 1 and Part 2 allows writers to complete an outline or treatment to workshop in the next section. Part 1 may also be taken individually.

About the Feature Film Writing Program

Delivered in two parts, WIFT-T’s Feature Film Writing Program introduces and expands on the major elements of feature film screenwriting, including concept, character, conflict, dialogue, theme, and the development stages of a screenplay.

Through a combination of instruction, hands-on exercises, examples and group discussion, the program provides in-depth analysis of screenplay fundamentals and supports the progression of a script from concept to first draft. Participants may also choose to take Part 1 or Part 2 individually. Both sections are instructed by renowned story editor and former Canadian Film Centre Story-Editor-in-Residence, Maureen Dorey.

Full Program Fee | Members $587.60   |  Non-Members $723.20  |  HST included
