Toronto, ON – Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) is pleased to announce comedic actress Samantha Bee as the recipient of the 2011 Crystal Award for International Achievement.

Known as the hilariously off-kilter Most Senior Correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Bee will receive the accolade at the Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on Monday December 5 in her hometown, Toronto.

“WIFT-T is thrilled to present Samantha with the International Achievement Award,” says Heather Webb, WIFT-T Executive Director. “She consistently delights audiences through her work on The Daily Show and has brought her talents to numerous roles in television and film. We look forward to welcoming Samantha back to Toronto.”

Bee joined the cast of The Daily Show in 2003, where she “systematically eliminated all those before her” for the title of Most Senior Correspondent (that according to her official bio).

In addition to The Daily Show, Bee can be seen opposite husband Jason Jones in the film Cooper’s Christmas, in the films Furry Vengeance and Date Night, and in a recurring role in the new season of the HBO series Bored to Death.

She is a regular on the upcoming season of HBO Canada’s Good Dog and guest starred recently on CBC’s Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays, as well as on the final season of Law and Order. This fall, Bee was honoured as Comedy Person of the Year at the Canadian Comedy Awards. Her full biography is available here.

The International Achievement Award is presented to a Canadian woman working in screen-based media for her significant and well-recognized body of work in Canada and abroad.

Awards for Creative Excellence, Mentorship and Outstanding Achievement will also be handed out during the December 5th gala luncheon at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto. The complete list of award winners is available here.

The 2011 Crystal Awards are presented in partnership with Shaw Media, NBC Universal and Deluxe Postproduction, with support from Dome Productions and MAC Cosmetics.

Produced by Women in Film & Television – Toronto, the annual Crystal Awards are designed to celebrate and promote Canadian excellence in screen-based media. Tickets are on sale now at www.wift.com.
