WIFT-T Reception @ TIFF 2011

WIFT-T and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) have teamed-up for WIFT-T’s annual reception during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The much-anticipated event will take place Wednesday September 14, 6pm – 10pm, at Pinewood Toronto Studios, 225 Commissioners Street, Toronto.
Complimentary shuttle service (from downtown Toronto) and complimentary parking at the venue is available. Details will be provided to all registered guests.
The WIFT-T Reception @ TIFF is designed to celebrate the spirit and creativity of Toronto’s screen-based media community. Performances By
Magneta Lane
Three bewitching young Canadian women, Lexi Valentine, Nadia King, and French, collaborated their talents to produce some of the most respected indie rock music that exists today. Their sound displays courage, strength, confidence, and a bit of sarcasm, but a uniqueness that the world has never seen before. Since being discovered, Magneta Lane has been unstoppable touring in Canada, the U.S., parts of Europe and Japan. They’ve also shared the stage with some notable names in music, such as K-os, The Stills, Sloan, Stellastarr and Silversun Pickups.

In My Coma
In My Coma is the brainchild of vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jasper James. Though Jasper has spent the last several years in southern Ontario, Canada, the foundation of his musical creativity rests in his English heritage. Born in Guildford, a small city south of London, England, Jasper grew up listening to the popular British bands of the 80s, thanks to his father’s passion for the music. IMC’s music combines the energy and loudness of modern rock with the dark and melodic characteristics of Brit-pop.

The Antiheroes
Dynamic hip hop duo The Antiheroes consists of Sha Prince and Flex, emcees from the GTA whose unstoppable lyricism and classic vibe pay homage to the genre’s golden era—with a uniquely modern twist. Fresh beats, catchy samples and effortless wordplay have earned them a growing fanbase that spans Canada, the U.S., Europe and the Netherlands. The much-anticipated debut album, This Is FreeDumb, drops September 23—but guests will have the exclusive chance to pick it up at the event.

Amanda Martinez
Lush vocals meet raw flamenco rhythms, vibrant Afro-Cuban beats, and the colorful resonance of Mexican folk music: this is the sound of Amanda Martinez captivating audiences around the globe. Following performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Toronto’s Koerner Hall, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and New York’s Blue Note club, Amanda is quickly garnering international acclaim. Her trademark warm vocals and melodies rich with Mexican and South African heritage have made hers the sought-after voice for Putumayo’s Bossa Nova Around the World.

The DoneFors
The DoneFors’ Award Winning Album (independent, 2011) showcases this incomparable band in shining form, exploring such themes as false heroes, small town woes, political cost and memories lost. The release will be celebrated at The Dakota Tavern on September 22. Elements of rock, pop, folk, jazz, world music and country create The DoneFors’ signature sound, which they’ve coined Canadiana Vanguard—a musical expression that stretches boundaries and stays rooted in an instrument’s organic sound.
