Digital Jobs of Tomorrow Career Hub
Use your digital and social media skills to help make Canada a world leader in the digital economy.
The challenge: Excite more young people into leading edge technology careers. Inspire more young women about the creative potential of technology leadership.
The opportunity: Lead in the design, editorial and community development of a leading edge online and social media initiative that transforms the way people make life-defining career choices.
The background: The CCICT is an industry-led national initiative whose mission is to reverse an alarming decline in IT-related post-secondary enrolments, historically low female participation, and significant shifts in demand – against the backdrop of growing demand from every sector for expertise in digital tools and technologies. We have close to 100 members – leading employers, educators, governments, and industry organizations across Canada. Our message is that today’s IT-related careers are different. They are about leadership and innovation, rather than being stuck in a cubicle doing routine programming. Examples of these exciting careers include tech entrepreneur, social media guru, business change leader, digital media artist, life scientist, and clean energy engineer.
The goals: The Digital Jobs of Tomorrow Project has the following objectives:
• Create new awareness of these exciting, cutting edge choices in the minds of young career choosers, parents, teachers, employers and the media.
• Motivate more career choosers in their teens and early 20s to select these nextgeneration ICT-related careers. Place a special focus on young women.
• Provide information, mentoring, and other supports that help young people to make good choices and to hang in when the going gets tough.
The plan: The Digital Jobs of Tomorrow Project will have two components:
• A highly interactive, “Web 2.0” style national Career Hub, in English and French, for next generation IT-related careers. It will become the go-to venue for young career choosers (age 14-26), providing advice, news, mentoring, and community capabilities.
• A “National ICT Career Week” for young career choosers and influencers. It will create a “jolt” of awareness that changes perceptions about the nature and attractiveness of 21st century IT career paths, as well as the educational pathways to these careers.
